Rideau is committed to supporting the individual needs of our residents and offering the highest quality of service.

Our mission is to build a strong and caring community that fosters independence, mutual respect and dignity, and promotes informed decision making. We work hard to create a positive environment where wellbeing is prioritized and day-to-day life is easy and fulfilling. We offer many opportunities for collaboration with our residents to ensure their evolving physical, emotional, spiritual and social needs are being considered and met.

The Chalmers Foundation has spent more than 50 years creating vibrant and safe communities for seniors in the Lower Mainland. As the owner and operator of Rideau Retirement Residence, we are dedicated to positively impacting the lives of our residents, our Foundation members, and the communities in which we live and work.

In 1970, the Foundation opened the doors of its first residence, Chalmers Lodge, which is located in Vancouver’s South Granville neighbourhood. In 2022, the Chalmers Foundation purchased Rideau Retirement Residence in order to expand on its mission to provide assisted living and independent housing to older adults in the Lower Mainland.

The Chalmers Foundation maintains a Board of Directors, which offers direction to the CEO of Rideau Retirement Residence, and oversees the organization of policies, management, planning, finances, use of resource and services. The Board includes resident representation and focuses its work on ensuring a sustainable future for Rideau by maintaining adequate resources to achieve its mission, and by providing good governance.

Yes. Residents may come and go as they please. This is your home, and how you choose to spend your time is completely up to you.

Many kinds! Fitness classes, educational workshops, movie screenings, games nights, social clubs, holiday celebrations, live entertainment and more are offered on a daily, weekly and monthly basis to our residents. Learn more here.

Of course! As a resident you have the opportunity to see your family as much or as little as you choose. We do ask that our residents and their guests sign-in and out as they visit the building; this is made to ensure security and peace of mind for all. If family members stay the night there is a small fee.

We offer a range of support services that can be assessed as your needs evolve over time. Our staff will work closely with you to determine what additional services you may require and how they can be best integrated into your life.
